In contemporary films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Mission Kashmir, Parinda, Hu Tu Tu, Josh, Munnabhai M.B.B.S., Khakee his vibrant work has breathed life in to the backdrops and transformed mere settings in to almost palpable characters.
Nitin Chandrakant Desai has been an art director on Hollywood productions shot in India. “I like to portray India’s grandeur through my work, I am not for glorifying our poverty or slums,” he shrugs.
He has worked on many international films with world renowned directors like Jane Campion (the Oscar wining Director of ‘The Piano’) on ‘Holy Smoke’, Meera Nair’s ‘Salaam Bombay’ and ‘Kamasutra’ and Stephen Sommers ‘Jungle Book’ for Walt Disney. He was even nominated for a Genie ( The Canadian equivalent of the Oscar ) for the Canadian film ‘Such A Long Journey’ as a production designer.
